Tsenddorj Dorjpurev is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at California Polytechnic State University’s Orfalea College of Business. His research focuses on macroeconomic forecasting, econometrics, and financial economics, with expertise in economic modeling, data-driven policy analysis, and machine learning applications in economic research.
He holds an M.Sc. in Quantitative Economics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, an M.Sc. in Finance from Università della Svizzera italiana in Switzerland, and a B.A. in Economics from Marmara University in Turkey. His recent work examines the Phillips Curve using high-dimensional indicators and Double Machine Learning techniques. Additionally, he has conducted comprehensive research on economic connectedness, including an analysis of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and its strategic role in global economic stability. His research has been published by the South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Research and Training Centre and The Bank of Mongolia Research Bulletin, and has been presented at major international conferences.
Before joining academia, Tsenddorj was a Senior Economist at the Central Bank of Mongolia, where he led a globally recognized big data integration project, significantly improving financial data accessibility and analytical capabilities. He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, applying economic modeling and forecasting techniques to policy evaluation and strategic decision-making.
At Cal Poly, he teaches Econ 395: Programming for Economics and Analytics, where students learn algorithmic problem-solving, stochastic modeling, and optimization techniques applied to economic and business analysis. He also teaches BUS 439: Fixed Income Securities Market, which develops analytical skills for properly valuing fixed income securities, including bond pricing, yields, interest rate term structures, market structures, portfolio strategies, and interest rate derivatives. Additionally, he instructs BUS 441: Computer Applications in Finance, a combined lecture and computer lab course emphasizing the acquisition of financial data and its analysis through financial theory and modeling to facilitate decision-making.
In addition to his academic work, Tsenddorj serves as the Chief Economist at Dorj Intelligence LLC, where he develops high-frequency U.S. economic forecasting models. Beyond academia, he has contributed to international economic policy initiatives and has been actively involved in projects promoting economic development and financial inclusion in emerging markets.
Outside of his professional work, he is deeply interested in economic history, policy responses to financial crises, and the evolution of macroeconomic frameworks in central banking.
