Dr. Seiver spent 27 years teaching economics at Miami University. He retired as a tenured professor in 2005. At Miami, he taught ten different courses, including Intermediate Microtheory, Money and Banking, Economic Development, International Trade and Finance, and Economics and the Stock Market. He also authored or coauthored over 20 peer reviewed articles, notes and comments, in journals such as American Economic Review (Papers and Proceedings), International Economic Review, Review of Income and Wealth, Demography, Population Studies, Applied Economics, and Journal of Economic Education. He also authored or coauthored two books: Regions and Resources: Strategies for Development (MIT Press) and Outsmarting Wall Street (Probus/McGraw-Hill, 3rd ed.) Seiver presented his work at over 20 national and regional conferences. He appeared regularly on the PBS TV program “Nightly Business Report.” Seiver was also principal or co-principal investigator for NSF and NIH grants totaling over $5 million.
Dr Seiver taught at San Diego State University from 2005 to 2012. While at SDSU, he taught Managerial Economics, Investments, and International Business Finance. He was named Most Influential Professor in 2007 (Finance) and in 2012 (International Business). He appeared frequently on local television as an economic commentator.
Dr Seiver was named Outstanding Faculty in Economics for the 2019-2020 academic year. He also competes in the U.S. Senior Olympics, and is nationally ranked for his age group in the 50- and 100-meter sprints.
