Addison Maerz
Addison Maerz is an assistant professor of organizational behavior at the Orfalea College of Business. He earned his Ph.D. from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, an M.Sc. from Queen's University, and a B.Sc. from the University of Calgary.
Addison studies moral courage, the willingness to act on one’s principles at work when doing so is personally risky, and why people don’t always do it. His research looks at a variety of factors, from personality, cognition, and emotion to the role that leaders play, in shaping whether and when employees take that risk. His work has been published in various outlets, including the Journal of Organizational Behavior, the Journal of Business and Psychology, and the Journal of Business Research.
He has taught courses in organizational behavior and employee training and development at OCOB, and his work in the classroom has been recognized with the David Peach Excellence in Teaching Award (2023) and the Learn by Doing Teaching Award (2026).
He has also worked with several Canadian organizations on tools for assessing employee engagement, turnover, and consumer preferences.
