Joongmin Shin
Joongmin Shin is a full professor of industrial technology and packaging at the Orfalea College of Business, Cal Poly. Before joining Cal Poly, he served as an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin–Stout.
His research focuses on antimicrobial releasing systems, modified atmosphere packaging, surface modification and grafting technologies, and the use of electrospinning to impregnate active compounds for extending product shelf life and enhancing food safety.
He also served as a pilot plant manager at the AgCenter of Louisiana State University, where his work centered on industrial problem-solving and the development of new systems, particularly in cryogenic freezing combined with edible coatings and modified atmosphere packaging. In addition, Shin has four years of industry experience in pharmaceutical and food packaging at E. Saeng in South Korea, where his work involved the development and evaluation of inorganic-based oxygen scavenger systems for food packaging applications.
Shin has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate packaging courses, including Food Packaging, Packaging Polymers, Packaging Dynamics, Consumer Packaging and Medical Packaging, over the past 17 years. At Cal Poly, he teaches courses in Packaging Sustainability and Packaging Polymers and Processing.
