Internship Credit
BUS & ECON students can refer to the information found below.
ITP students can earn internship credit through ITP 4419. Students can enroll in ITP 4419 in the fall and spring terms. The internship can take place in any term, including the summer. Students can enroll in ITP 4419 in the term after their internship (unless they are graduating the same quarter as their internship).
ITP 4419 has two professors. Industrial Technology concentration students must contact Dr. Eric Olsen, and Packaging Technology students must contact Dr. Koushik Saha.

Steps to Enroll in BUS 4430 for Fall 2026
Deadline to apply is August 17, 2026 by 12:00 PM (Noon)
Download and complete the Internship Contract, including the necessary Employer signatures. To utilize electronic Fill & Sign features, open with Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
Complete the Internship Application, attaching your signed Internship Contact and a PDF of your job description. The deadline to submit your application is August 17 at 12:00 PM. Physical or emailed copies of the Internship Contract will not be accepted.
After August 17, your Internship Application will be submitted to your concentration Area Chair for Concentration Elective approval:
- If your Internship application is approved, you will be deemed eligible to enroll in BUS 430.
- If your Internship Application is denied, you may not use the internship toward Cal Poly credit.
- NOTE: Only the Marketing Management and Management and Human Resources concentrations will allow for concentration elective credit. All other concentrations will have the units go to Free Electives.
Upon approval, you will be contacted via your Cal Poly email with course enrollment instructions, including a permission number that will allow you to enroll. Students are responsible for adding the course before the add/drop deadline to guarantee enrollment. The add deadline is September 14 at 11:59 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions
BUS 4430 a Credit/No Credit course. In order to receive credit, you will need to complete one progress report and one final report. Your employer will also need to complete a survey verifying your hours worked.
During Fall and Spring, BUS 4430 costs the same as other 3 unit courses at Cal Poly whether you take it for a concentration elective or free electives. During the Summer term, the course costs $49 per unit.
In order to receive 3 units of academic credit, you will need to complete at least 120 internship hours during the term you are enrolled in BUS 4430. Your employer will verify the total hours worked at the end of your internship. You cannot bank hours worked outside of the enrolled term to add to your total internship hours. You may only receive 3 units per internship (equivalent of 1 class), even if your hours are greater than the minimum 120 hours. You may apply for internship credit up to 3 times/term for a total of 9 units; however, more than 3 units per term will not be granted.
Once you submit your Internship Application, your Concentration Area Chair will review your application and either approve or deny your request to apply BUS 4430 towards your Concentration electives.
No, you must complete your internship simultaneously and cannot get BUS 4430 credit without enrolling in the class.
